The Pope on Music...

"Music can give rise to intense and profound emotions. It can exert a powerful influence with its enchantment. One needs a life illuminated not only by art, but also by faith, and lived in communication and friendship with God. Artists must lift up not only their voices, but also their souls, realizing once agian the Benedictine saying, 'Men concordet voci (mind in accordance with voice).'

"It's my fervent hope that this very noble art might always increasingly elevate the spirit to an understanding of authentic human and spiritual values, and that it might be an instrument of true brotherhood, helping to overcome discrimination and go beyond frontiers."

-Pope John Paul II
